View the policy documentThis policy established a recycling programme for the Republic of Palau, and a beverage container deposit fee, creating a Recycling Fund. The policy is a recycling and deposit return scheme for PET bottles and achieves a 90% recovery rate of plastic bottles. The bottles are sent to Taiwan for processing.
The policy only addresses PET bottles and has only been implemented in Koror State where they have achieved a 50% reduction in waste to landfill. Funding was from an initial Government investment of $100,000 and then funded by DRS.
