There has been an excellent collection rate of 85% for smaller bottles that has led to less ending up in the environment. The policy has been updated to include larger bottles. Large bottles, on the other hand, have continued to be a source of pollution. More infrastructure is needed in the form of bottle return machines.
Through an analytical framework, we've reviewed over 100 plastic policies. These reviews determine the effectiveness of policies in reducing plastic pollution and we offer recommendations in light of this evidence, to enhance future policy making.
