View the policy documentConsumers were charged 15 euro cents (USD 0.17) on plastic bags at point of sale. This later increased to 22 euro cents (USD 0.24) in 2017. This policy is widely regarded as a success, was considered effective in reducing plastic pollution, and had widespread public acceptance.
